Canary Islands - Lanzarote

July 15, 2008 By: Mr Vacation Category: Vacations

Lanzarote is a favourite holiday destination and the majority of visitors who come here for a holiday often come year after year, becoming addicted to the island’s charm and glorious weather.

Quite often, visitors for the first time are shocked by the intensity of the heat, solidified magma and the dense landscape under a burning sun. There are still active volcanoes on Lanzarote most of which are located towards the centre of the island.

Thankfully, nothing to worry about for future tourists as these volcanoes are a tourist attraction. While visiting the island, you often feel your elemental senses are provoked because of fire and water being so close to each other.

Lanzarote has evolved some bizarre farming practices and vine is cultivated on Lanzarote like nowhere else in the world, the vines are grown in funnels of clinker each one surrounded by a little wall. The dew is collected via the clinker and the funnel directs it to the vines.

Thankfully, on the island you will not find high rise hotels as most of the landscape is preserved, keeping in with the charm of the island. The island has tried to keep a tranquil, relaxing way of life enjoyed by the locals and tourists alike.

The island itself is biosphere reservation and protected by UNESCO. Despite the island being only approximately 60km long from Northeast to Southwest and 20km wide from east to west, there are so many different contrasting beautiful landscapes to see.

There are many ash and clinker fields, especially around the western regions of the island.

There is a variety of different property for sale in Lanzarote, all varying in price and style. A good way to go about this, if you are interested in buying, is to have a few holidays on the island exploring different areas. There are many questions and answers to be considered when going down this avenue; it is not the same as buying and selling in England.

property in Lanzarote to buy can vary so differently and can depend on the individual wishing to purchase a property as to what they want it for. The types of properties are apartments, villas, townhouses and the traditional fincas (old farmhouse) and ruins.

Both of these last two mentioned may in some areas need part or total refurbishment. Those wishing to buy as a permanent home should consider the area carefully; living closely to a favorite holiday destination for tourists is not quite the same when you live there. If you have children, you have to check out the local schools.
