The race draws people from all walks of life to try their hand at leading a dog sled team. Mushers must have a good command of their dogs and their survival skills in order to complete the race at all. The Iditarod travels along a trail that was once a supply route in Alaska. Instead of ponies, the mail and gold was hauled by mushers and their trained sled dog teams.

After a few days of bright sunshine, the lights seem to grow brighter than ever. Some see the lights as a flowing ribbon of electric light traveling across the sky. Others see it as a shower of bright colors. The important thing is to catch a glimpse of heaven in all its glory.

Not long ago I needed some last minute vacation ideas, so I went online searching for an unique all inclusive family vacation. It had been 30 years since I had been on horseback, and my wife and 2 children had never ridden before. However, we decided to try something new, and rather than go to the beach like usual, we headed for the Great Smokey Mountains in North Carolina to see if we could rustle up some horses.

We took off at dawn and got there just before lunch time. The drive through the mountains was breathtaking, and the view from the front porch of the main lodge at Clear Creek Guest Ranch was equally impressive. We were escorted to our cozy and comfortable cabin, and we had just enough time to unpack our gear before heading back up to the main lodge to eat.

The food was mouth watering and plentiful. It was served family style in big bowls on a ‘Lazy Susan’ in the middle of our big round table. Soon after lunch, with the help of one of the many friendly ‘wranglers’ at the Dude Ranch, we picked out our horses and went for a 90 minute ride through some of the most pristine and scenic trails the Appalachian Mountains have to offer.

Later that afternoon we took a dip in the pool, and then we treated ourselves to a relaxing massage in the heated jacuzzi. It was most refreshing, and the views from the pool and jacuzzi were equally magnificent.

Sitting in the big comfy chair near the fire in the Main Lodge later that evening with an aperitif in one hand and a good book in the other was the perfect ending to a perfect day.

During our stay we rode our horses on many of the other trails at the ranch, fished for trout, mined for gems, played golf, pool, ping pong, video games, occasionally helped some of the other guests with their jigsaw puzzles, visited local craft shops, and took part in a rodeo!!!

It was awesome, and we didn’t want to leave the beautiful and friendly confines of the Clear Creek Dude Ranch, but we took solace in the fact that we will most definitely pass this way again.

It’s not called one of the happiest places on earth for nothing! We’re talking of course about Disney World, one of the largest and most popular theme parks on the planet.

Though there are many vacation locations and activities from which to choose all over the world, there is nothing quite like a memorable Disney vacation. They have attractions, rides, hotels galore, and so many things to see and do that you would have to take 10 trips to Disney World to see it all.

Before you go though, you do need to keep some tips in mind. Sure, it can be a great adventure for your whole family, but if you do not come prepared you might end up ruining your entire vacation.

The best time of the year to travel to Disney World is during their off season. This is usually around January to early February and also the summer. There will be less people, shorter lines to wait in, and fewer hassles in general, as well as the ability to see and experience more since there will be fewer people filling the parks.

Additionally, the weather will be very pleasant since the daytime temperatures in January and early February run around 65 to 70 degrees. Although the summer goes hot, that simply results in fewer crowds for you.

When taking a vacation to Disney World, consider staying in one of the hotels outside of, but close to, the parks. Another tip for a great vacation at Disney World is to plan your “in park visitation strategy” before arrival. It is also advisable to you buy your tickets before even traveling to Orlando. The benefit will be fewer lines, and you will be able to be one of the first visitors in the park.

There are plenty of activities in Disney World, especially for the kids. Disney characters walk around the parks, while you enjoy and a seemingly endless array of rides, games, and entertainment to keep your children busy for the entire day. They real question is who will wear down first - the kids or their parents.

If you have a teenager, you may want to plan a day at Wet ‘n Wild, a water park they are sure to love. Magic Kingdom and Epcot are geared largely toward teenagers, so it is great to plan at least one day at each.

Finally for the adults, there is more than enough to do during the evenings. Pay a few extra dollars and hire a Disney-hired babysitter while you go out for a great dinner at one of the many famous restaurants. Or you could be bold and head to Pleasure Island to dance and laugh the night away.
