La Jolla California Vacation Information

November 18, 2008 By: Mr Vacation Category: Vacations Comments Off

La Jolla California, is a seaside resort community of around 25,000. Spanish for “the jewel”, it’s often times referred to as “jewel by the sea”. La Jolla borders the Pacific Ocean to the south and extends north to Torrey Pines State Reserve and Del Mar,
California.

Along the way, La Jolla encompasses neighborhoods like Bird Rock, Windansea, La Jolla Shores, La Jolla Farms, Torrey Pines, Mount Soledad, and even La Jolla Village.

Located near the upscale community of La Jolla, the Marine Street Beach is a small cluster of high end clothiers, hotels, shops, and galleries. The beach is also legendary to body surfers and body boarders due to it’s thunderous waves which always seem to crash the shoreline at the right time.

Residents of La Jolla and business owners refer to the “village” or “town” of La Jolla. The official postal address for the zip code 92037 is actually la Jolla California Vacation, and not San Diego as it is for most communities within the City of San Diego. Sometimes, tourists get confused and believe that La Jolla is actually a seperate city, which it isn’t.

La Jolla is a community of the City of San Diego. La Jolla has several community groups that work to unify the voice of the area, including several non profit organizations.

With it’s palm lined streets, large homes, and tropical climate and atmosphere, La Jolla is like a southern European village with it’s own touch of Beverly Hills along the retail shops on Prospect
Street. A lot of the natural charm from La Jolla stems from the presence of the ocean and Mount Soledad.

Several narrow curvy roads follow the contours of Soledad with hundreds of nice homes overlooking the ocean, nestled gently on the slopes. There are several sandy beaches here as well, including the Windansea Beach, La Jolla Cove, La Jolla Beach,
and La Jolla Shores.

La Jolla also has the Torrey Pines Golf Course, which was made famous by the PGA Tour Buick Invitational held there each February. Down the steep cliffs frm the golf course is the famous
Black’s Beach.

The downtown area of la Jolla California Vacation is well known for it’s jewelry stores, upmarket restaurants, and even hotels. Prospect Street and Girad Avenue also offer several famous boutiques. Well known
for its architectural and historical presence is the La Valencia Hotel, which used to welcome movie stars on retreat from Hollywood.

Recently, harbor seals have taken over the Children’s Beach, which is a quiet man made cove near the downtown area. The seals are protected under federal law, so removing them is nearly impossible. Now, the beach is open, as the rope is down.
Swimming here is allowed, although it’s not recommended.

Information On A Mexico Vacation

November 16, 2008 By: Mr Vacation Category: Vacations Comments Off

Thinking of a vacation to Mexico but want to go somewhere different off the beaten path? Here are some ideas for a mexico vacation that will take you beyond Cancun or Puerto Vallarta.

Isla Mujeres, located only eight miles across the bay from Cancun, is a tiny island only five miles long and about a half mile wide. Translated, Isla Mujeres means the “Island of Women”. No, it is not a hidden commune filled with females but it is a charming and tranquil fishing village. It has shops, restaurants and about a dozen or so small hotels where you can rest your head.

With a downtown area consisting of only four or five blocks, this makes Isla Mujeres everything that the big tourist areas in Mexico are not. Surrounded by white sand beaches on all sides, snorkeling and scuba diving are popular in the crystal clear turquoise waters. Kayaks, snorkeling gear, and other water toys can be rented on the beach and fishing, sailing and even swimming with dolphins is available here. Isla Mujeres has something for every one of all ages and is a great place to explore the natural wonders of Mexico.

Another great mexico vacation that is often overlooked is Cabo San Lucas. Its location at the southern tip of the Baja peninsula, gives it an ideal climate of about 78 degrees year round. Once a tranquil fishing village, Cabo has evolved into a wonderful spot for vacationers but remains small and charming. Small however does not mean boring, there are many things to do in Cabo.

Deserted beaches, on both the Pacific coast and along the shoreline of the Sea of Cortez, make Cabo San Lucas an awesome beach vacation. If you enjoy water sports, boating, marlin fishing, horseback riding and golf, you will enjoy Cabo. Golf has become very popular in the area and there are five championship golf courses already here and more on the way.

Cabo San Lucas is a perfect vacation in mexico spot for those looking for something different. It can be quiet and relaxing for a romantic getaway or it can be a place where you will keep going till you drop with the whole family.

Another one of Mexico’s jewels is Tulum. You will find Tulum about an hours drive south of Playa Del Carmen on the Mayan Coast. Tulum is best known for its Mayan ruins. Small but impressive, the ruins are perched high on top of limestone cliffs that offer a breathtaking view below of the sparkling Caribbean and a romantic coastline.

The little town of Tulum is slowly expanding and there are several very good local restaurants and a few on the beach in the smattering of hotels in the area. Accommodations range from five star boutique hotels to rustic cabanas.

Tulum offers the perfect mixture of tranquility, relaxation and seclusion but still gives you the option of exciting nearby attractions. Day trips in the area are always a good choice and the Eco-tourism experiences are limitless.

It is a much slower paced vacation and a combination of 3-4 days in Playa Del Carmen and 2-3 days in Tulum is a great way to combine the best of both worlds in these treasured spots.

The Best Summer Vacations

November 11, 2008 By: Mr Vacation Category: Vacations Comments Off

The words “Schools Out For Summer” strike joy into the hearts of children and often a sigh of relief for parents who are just as eager to take a break from homework as their progeny. However taking a complete break from the books for the entire summer can be problematic.

Studies have shown that children forget between 1 and 3 months of school during the summer vacation spots. While reading is the least effected, the most impacted subjects are spelling and math. Obviously it is important for children to have time to play and relax — to just enjoy being kids during the summer. Children should not be pushed into a high-pressure study schedule over summer vacation. But parents can take steps to slow down that loss of knowledge and erosion of skills.

First and foremost, keep children reading over the summer vacation spots but try to work in some nonfiction as well as fiction onto the reading list. Take a lesson from many experienced teachers and pick a few spelling words from the books children are reading. Perhaps tie test results into some special summer reward and you will have eagerly awaited spelling bees.

Writing is one skill that often erodes during summer vacation spots, but you can give children a writing journal and a weekly goal. They can write about whatever you think will interest your child. They can report on their baseball games, make up elaborate games, or simply report on the books they are reading. There are lots of great writing prompts out there for kids if you run dry of ideas. It does not matter so much what your child writes so long as they spend time writing so they can work on handwriting skills as well as keep in the groove of putting words on paper. One easy writing prompt is to have the child describe people, places, objects, pets and other animals, insects, and games. Lists are another easy writing prompt — favorite things, worst things, etc. Then on another day you can use those descriptions and lists to generate another writing prompt.

Math skills might seem the hardest thing to work on during summer but in fact these can be the easiest. Math does not have to come out of a book and you can easily work a lot of math lessons into those long car rides or plane trips as you go on a family vacation. Try counting car headlights (counting by 2s) as you drive or fingers in a restaurant or plane (counting by 5s). Find various shapes around the house and then trace them to create yet more complex forms. Get the kids involved in cooking and learning about measurements. Give the kids a ruler and notebook and tell them to measure various objects around the house. Empty out your pocket change and have the kids sort it and create word problems with the coins.

There are lots of activities you can do at home without the expense of special tools, workbooks or programs that will actively engage your child in learning and help keep their school skills sharp. They will not even notice they are learning because they will enjoy these projects so much.

Improve Your Vacation Photographs In 30 Seconds

November 11, 2008 By: Mr Vacation Category: Vacations Comments Off

No matter what part of the globe you’re from, you’re probably counting down the weeks until your next vacation. Can you recall how your last vacation pictures turned out?

The irony is that it usually takes the same amount of time to shoot outstanding vacation pictures that it does mediocre ones.

So, what is necessary to take better vacation photos?

It’s pretty simple, really. Here’s how to take phenomenal vacation photographs in ten steps: Take a few seconds before immediately snapping off 5 pictures and think about these questions:

  1. Am I about to be eaten by a wild animal? (It may not be photo-related, but if the camera is also eaten, then…)
  2. Would the photo be more effective if taken using a portrait (vertical) perspective rather than a typical landscape (horizontal) perspective?
  3. If I re-position myself, could I include something in the foreground (or background) that would improve the picture?
  4. Is there a better angle?
  5. Do I have the right image in my viewfinder? Think of the view as though you were about to crop the final image. Is there way too much extraneous material in the image (or far too little)? Having up to 20% more in an un-cropped photograph is a good idea, but much more than that could begin to degrade the resolution after the photo is cropped.
  6. Are all my settings correct (at a minimum, consider: ISO, metering mode, fill flash, and white balance).
  7. Could this photograph improve if a circular polarizing filter was used?
  8. Do I want to be in this picture? If so, use a tripod or ask a stranger to take the shot.
  9. Would the photograph be better if I had people (or no people) in the shot?
  10. Would this shot be much more spectacular if taken at another time of day or night (assuming of course, that you could return then)?

Realize that you probably don’t go on that many vacations per year. Therefore, doesn’t it make a lot more sense to take a few extra seconds before taking your photographs and be proud of your vacation pictures? Otherwise, the same old mediocre alternatives are still available.

Winter Breaks In Lanzarote

October 29, 2008 By: Mr Vacation Category: Vacations Comments Off

Whilst the rest of Europe is packing away the loungers and the sun tan lotion the Canary Islands are preparing themselves for the busiest holiday season of the year. As these seven specks of Spain that lie just off the coast of Africa are Europe´s only genuine Winter sun destination.

Lanzarote is the eastern most link in the Canary Island chain and has long been a popular destination with British and Irish tourists. And despite failing airlines, the falling pound and the current bleak economic outlook the Island of Fire is still a hot ticket. As tourist numbers to the island have just kept on rising.

Over one million British and Irish tourists will have bought flights to Lanzarote over the last twelve months. And the Christmas and New Year period is traditionally the busiest time of year on the island. As sun starved Northern Europeans escape the cold back home for a week or two in the sun.

As a result demand for cheap flights to Lanzarote has remained relatively stable. Whilst prices have started to fall on the island there has been none of the sharp reductions and adjustments currently evident in the British market. As the island’s tourist industry has remained buoyant.

This can be attributed to the fact that Lanzarote has much more to offer tourists than just sunshine alone though. As the island boasts a unique volcanic scenery, beautiful beaches, a host of natural attractions and some of the most unusual tourist sites found anywhere in the world. All of which is largely thanks to an island born artist and architect called Cesar Manrique.

Manrique was studying his craft and hanging out with the likes of Andy Warhol in New York when package tourism first started to take off in Spain. Alert to the damage that this could cause to his birthplace Manrique returned home to ensure that his beloved Lanzarote was not buried beneath a sea of five star concrete.

As a result of his efforts Lanzarote has largely been spared the type of over development now commonly found in other Spanish sun spots. High rise buildings are banned, advertising hoardings are outlawed and all of the islands three main tourist resorts are well contained.

Manrique also sought to create a set of unique tourist attractions that would provide an alternative to the golf courses and water parks so prevalent elsewhere in Spain. In tandem with close collaborators such as Jesus Soto he lit an alternative path for island development with the creation of sites such as the Jameos del Agua, which embodied his desire to fuse art with nature.

Preparing For A Fulfilling Golf Excursion For The Family

October 29, 2008 By: Mr Vacation Category: Vacations Comments Off

Typically, golf vacations are for seasoned golfers who want to try their hand at new and challenging golf courses around the world. However, as the golf sector grows, the market is growing as well to include vacations geared toward golf training and family golf vacations.

To learn about fun ways to plan a great family golf vacation, keep reading.

1. Choose a golf resort that’s family friendly.

If you’re planning to bring your family along on your next golf vacation, choose a resort that seems family friendly. Look for alternate activities like tennis, swimming, spas and recreation areas so that family members who don’t feel like golfing have other optional activities to do while you’re all out on the green. Or for those who do enjoy the sport, you can look around to purchase appealing golf-related gifts.

2. Investigate training and school possibilities.

A lot of new golf resorts are starting to offer golf boot camps geared toward all levels and ages of players. If your little ones are just learning the sport or you’re trying to improve your skill, this can be a great option. Some resorts offer junior training camps and a separate course for the adults to enjoy while their kids are at golf school.

Another fun and cost-effective idea for families is to hire one professional instructor to work with the entire family over the course of a day or a week. Your instructor can evaluate your skill levels, work with you through a game, and you can spend your vacation learning the game together.

3. Try renting junior gear for the kids.

If your children are still growing, you might want to look into renting, borrowing, or buying used gear. Junior clubs come in a variety of sizes. Before you shell out the money for a brand new set that will be too small by next year, you may want to look into less expensive options.

4. Pack lots of sunscreen and water.

Kids are durable, but before you set off on a long day of walking the course with them, make sure you’ve packed lots of extra sunscreen, bottled water and a hat. Heat stroke and burns happen often on the golf course, so be prepared.

5. Leave early for your tee times.

Parents know that kids can take forever to get ready, so if you’re typically at the course 30 minutes ahead of your tee time, aim to be there an hour in advance if you’ve got the kids in tow.

6. Spread the wisdom.

Use this opportunity to impart on your children the importance of good golf etiquette and strong sportsmanship.

Guidelines to Pleasant Journey - Malaysia is Truly Asia

October 18, 2008 By: Mr Vacation Category: Vacations Comments Off

MALAYSIA IS TRULY ASIA

Malaysia is a unique nation in Asia. In many ways, there is no other country in Asia quite like Malaysia. In order to appreciate this remarkable fact, you need to understand Asia in comparison to the other continents like North and South America, Europe, Africa and Australia.

In terms of people, most parts of the other continents comprise of a dominant race, be it the European Caucasians in Europe, North America and Australia or the Black Africans in Africa. Although there are sub-cultures and sub-ethnic groups in these continents, these races are largely the same in terms of culture, language, lifestyle and tradition. This is largely due to the fact that most of the countries in these continents share a common history. In Europe, for example, many of the royal families of each country are related to one another. In other words, the people in the continents other than Asia are largely homogenous. But this is not the case in Asia. In Asia, every country has its own dominant race. Although there are similarities (Koreans, Japanese and Chinese for example) but nothing as large-scale as found in Europe.

Malaysia Asia

People in Asia have a very different mindset and worldview compared to those in the continents in the West. The people in the American, European and Australian continents are much more individualistic whereas those in Asia are much more communal. The people in Western continents place great importance in personal satisfaction and desires. Asians emphasize the importance of family and social groups over personal desires. Even the Africans are very different from Asians. Africans tend to be much more expressive whereas Asians are more reserved.

My Malaysia

Nowhere is this diversity of race, culture, religion and lifestyle more evident in Asia than in Malaysia. No one race dominates another. There are approximately 60% of the Malay race and 40% non-Malays, comprised of Chinese, Indians, Kadazans, Ibans and a host of minority ethnic groups. Likewise, nowhere is there a greater blend of tradition, family values, respect for the community and self-effacement in Asia than in Malaysia. Truly, Malaysia typifies Asia to the greatest extent among all other Asian countries. To see Asia all in one country, travel to Malaysia.

Nowadays with globalization, there is an increasing cross-cultural influence in every country. It is no different in Malaysia. Western influence is rising, especially in the main cities like Malaysia’s capital city, Kuala Lumpur and other major cities like Penang, Ipoh, Malacca, Johor Baru, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching. For example, where once you need an interpreter to communicate, nowadays English is spoken everywhere in the cities and even smaller towns. Walking around Kuala Lumpur you would feel like you were in New York or London, except for the people around you. The skyscrapers, freeways (called highways in Malaysia), facilities and activities are no different from any metropolis in Europe, America or Australia. Other than skin color, there would hardly be any difference in the people also. People wear ties or business suits to work; they travel in cars or trains and eat fast foods. In fact you would probably find more people having cell phones in Kuala Lumpur than say, in Austin, Texas.

But despite the Western influence brought about by globalization, Malaysia still retains many Eastern values typical of Asia. Honoring elders, respecting parents, modesty of females and the importance of family are ingrained among Malaysians. These, coupled with the basic Asian virtue of hard work, not expecting handouts (there is no dole system or government unemployment welfare in Malaysia) and tenacity (never giving up) are part and parcel of the Malaysian culture.

Foreseeable Pluses And Minuses Of A Sandals Honeymoon Trip

October 14, 2008 By: Mr Vacation Category: Vacations Comments Off

Brides who take care of their own wedding preparations have a lot of details to juggle. They need to coordinate the location of the ceremony, find a reliable photographer, possibly hire a DJ for the reception, and lots more. One of the more enjoyable details, however, should be in making plans for the honeymoon - especially if in an exotic location. Sandals is one of the more favorable spots around the world.

Sandals honeymoons are the bulk of the resort company’s business - with the majority of their guests being honeymooning couples. All Sandals’ resorts are adult’s only and designed for romance and luxury. So, if you’re planning a Sandals vacation for your honeymoon, keep reading to learn the pros and cons that you can anticipate.

Somewhat of a Cookie-Cutter Experience

Though Sandals has the honeymoon experience down pat, that makes a lot of couples cringe as they yearn for a more original honeymoon vacation. Because Sandals does so many honeymoons, it can often feel like a honeymoon “factory.”

That said, Sandals knows what they’re doing and they do it well - from the in-room breakfasts to the romantic settings and private pools, there is a reason they’re known as one of the premiere honeymoon destinations.

To avoid having the same honeymoon as everyone else, try tacking on a few extra tours or activities to your trip. A day tour of the nearby city or an afternoon spent rock climbing can mix things up and add some personal style to the trip.

Interaction With Other Couples

While Sandals honeymoons are intended to be private and romantic, there is still a significant amount of interaction with other couples. From meal times to social hours and nearby beach chairs, you’re surrounded by other couples celebrating their own honeymoon, 10-year anniversary or just enjoying a relaxing break.

Some couples really like the added social interaction, while others tend to prefer a vacation that’s slightly more private or self-catered. For that added privacy, couples have the option to invest in a private suite with catered meal service.

No Kids

Probably the most attractive feature of Sandals’ resorts is that there are no kids allowed. Instead of a trip plagued by packs of crying children, you can enjoy the peace and tranquility of a vacation just for you.

Single parents who are marrying and plan to bring their children with them for a family honeymoon may have to check out Beaches - the family alternative for Sandals fans.

Can Be Costly

Couples planning to honeymoon at Sandals should expect to pay between $2000 and $4000 a week for a standard room, barring any promotions or discounts. That includes meals, drinks and some activities, but not airfare or additional tours. However, Sandals has a great reputation. According to most guest reviews, is well worth the extra expense when compared to other resorts.

Full Scale Customer Service

There’s one thing that Sandals honeymoons do particularly well, and that’s provide excellent, all-inclusive and luxury service to every guest. Year after year, the resort company wins awards, reviews and accolades from past guests thanks to their high level of quality and service.
